Choose your wrap coverage

  • Full color change: Define the exterior panels you want wrapped, where the original color will remain visible, and whether door-jamb treatment is included. Confirm the selected 3M film, preparation, trim handling and estimated completion window in your written quote.
  • Partial accent wrap: Discuss a hood, roof, mirrors, spoiler or selected trim. Identify each surface separately and ask the shop to assess its suitability before approving the work.
  • Roof and hood wraps: Explore a contrast finish without committing to a full exterior color change. Confirm the material, finish, edges and covered areas before installation.

Vinyl wrap vs. paint vs. color-change PPF

Three ways to change a car's color. Not the same thing.

  • Vinyl wrap: an appearance-focused option. Confirm the material, finish, panel coverage, preparation and removal considerations in a vehicle-specific quote.
  • Repainting: a permanent finish change or repair option. Obtain a body-shop quote that specifies preparation, disassembly, jamb treatment and materials; PLM's wrap quote is not a repaint estimate.
  • Color-change PPF: ask about available products, finish, vehicle suitability and coverage. Product-specific performance, care and warranty terms should accompany the written quote.

If you tell us what you're going for and how long you plan to keep the vehicle, we'll tell you honestly which one to pick — including recommending against wrap if it's not the right tool.

Know what the finished wrap will include

Ask the shop to show you the planned edges, seams and color transitions before work begins. Confirm which trim pieces may be removed, what happens inside the door openings and where the original paint will remain visible.

Your written quote should identify the selected film, preparation, covered areas and exclusions. Request care instructions and the applicable product and installation terms rather than assuming every finish has the same maintenance needs or warranty.

Installation timing is confirmed after reviewing the vehicle and proposed work. Discuss your preferred collection date before booking; do not treat an initial estimate as a guaranteed completion date.

/ FAQ

Vinyl wraps — frequently asked

Real questions from real San Antonio drivers. Written for humans and answer engines.

How long does a vinyl wrap last?
There is no single lifespan or warranty that applies to every wrap. Ask for the terms for the selected product, finish, exposure and installation, together with its care and removal guidance. A warranty is not a promise that the entire wrap will look new for a fixed number of years, and removal should not be presented as risk-free.
Does a vinyl wrap protect the paint underneath?
Choose a vinyl wrap primarily for appearance, not as a substitute for a product-specific paint-protection plan. If rock-chip protection is a priority, discuss suitable PPF options separately. Do not assume that film combinations are approved or that a wrap guarantees preserved resale value or a damage-free lease return.
How much does a color-change vinyl wrap cost?
Vinyl wraps are quoted for your vehicle, selected material and finish. Your written quote identifies covered panels, door-jamb treatment, preparation, removal work and exclusions.
What's the difference between vinyl wrap and paint?
Vinyl wrap changes appearance using an applied film; repainting changes or repairs the painted finish. Compare separate written proposals for the same vehicle and intended result. PLM's wrap quote is not a repaint estimate, and no fixed percentage saving, completion time, resale outcome or damage-free removal is promised. Review our wrap-versus-paint quote guide for the comparison checklist.
Can any car be wrapped?
Suitability must be assessed for the vehicle and selected film. Disclose peeling or damaged paint, corrosion, prior repairs, repainting and any existing film before requesting a final quote. For refinished panels, confirm suitability and curing requirements with the refinisher and film guidance rather than relying on a universal waiting period.
What finishes are available for vinyl wraps?
PLM offers 3M vinyl-wrap options. Ask about the exact product and available gloss, satin, matte or other finishes for your project, and confirm the color, sample availability and material availability before approving the work.
How long does a vinyl wrap installation take?
Timing depends on the vehicle, coverage, preparation, trim work and any existing-film removal. The shop confirms availability and an estimated completion window after reviewing the project. Share any deadline before booking; expedited service is not assumed.
Can I wash my vehicle after wrapping?
Follow the care instructions for the exact film and finish installed, including when to perform the first wash. For 3M 2080, the manufacturer advises waiting at least 72 hours and recommends hand washing where possible. Ask the installer about approved cleaners and washing methods; do not apply a generic pressure, nozzle-distance or wax recommendation to every finish.
