Compare the product and preparation
Compare coatings by the exact product, suitable surfaces, preparation, application requirements and written care terms. A category name or hardness number alone does not establish how a product will perform on your vehicle.
Ceramic coating is quoted for your vehicle, paint condition and preparation needs. Your written quote identifies the coating product, included preparation, treated surfaces, maintenance requirements and applicable warranty terms.

A CLOSER LOOK
Preparation.
Then the finish.
The conversation starts with your paint condition. Review the preparation, coating product, treated surfaces and care requirements before work begins.
Talk through your buildPreparation matched to your paint
The shop assesses the existing finish before quoting preparation and paint correction. The written scope specifies any decontamination, polishing and surface-specific treatment; these are not assumed to be included.
Your written coating quote identifies the exact product, preparation, treated surfaces, care instructions and applicable warranty terms. Confirm any included maintenance products or follow-up visits rather than assuming they are part of every installation.
- Assess the paint and any repair history
- Specify the wash and decontamination appropriate to the finish
- Quote polishing or correction only where agreed
- Confirm surface preparation and application requirements for the selected product
- List treated surfaces and exclusions
- Confirm curing, pickup and first-wash instructions
Review the condition of the finish and the agreed preparation before work begins. Any extra correction or treatment should be approved as part of the written scope.

What the warranty actually covers
Warranty terms differ by product and may include registration, maintenance or inspection requirements. Read the actual coverage, exclusions and claim process before approving the installation.
Warranty coverage and duration depend on the exact product installed. Confirm the written terms, exclusions, maintenance requirements, registration and any separate workmanship coverage before approving the work. Follow the selected product's care instructions. Coatings and films still need washing, inspection and maintenance; any professional maintenance or removal work is quoted separately.
What ceramic doesn't do: it doesn't stop rock chips (that's PPF), and it doesn't prevent swirl marks from bad wash technique. Anyone claiming otherwise is over-selling the product.

How to compare the proposed coating
Start with the exact coating proposed for your vehicle, not a broad label such as ceramic or graphene. The product instructions and written scope should answer these questions before installation.
Product and surface: Which coating is being installed, and is it suitable for the paint, film, wheel, glass or trim surface being treated?
Preparation and application: What preparation is included, and what application and curing requirements does the manufacturer specify?
Performance claims: What evidence supports the advertised benefit, and under what test conditions? Do not assume a hardness rating or chemistry label guarantees scratch resistance or a particular lifespan.
Care and warranty: What maintenance, registration and inspection requirements apply? Confirm exclusions and any separate workmanship terms.
Compare written quotes using the same surfaces and preparation. A product name or price alone does not establish installation quality.
Ceramic coating care: follow the selected product
Use the written care instructions for the coating actually installed. This checklist is not a substitute for the manufacturer's product-specific requirements.
Before the first wash: Confirm curing time, water-exposure precautions and what to do if the vehicle gets wet.
During routine care: Use compatible cleaning products and clean washing equipment. Avoid letting contamination sit on the surface, and ask the shop how to address persistent spots without damaging the finish.
- Confirm the permitted wash methods after curing
- Do not assume an automatic or touchless wash is compatible
- Use only maintenance products approved for the installed coating
- Confirm any inspection or maintenance schedule required by the written warranty
- Keep product, installation and maintenance records
Professional maintenance, correction or reapplication is quoted separately unless it is expressly included in your written scope.
