Short answer for Texas drivers
Ceramic film can reduce solar heat entering through treated glass, but the result depends on the exact film, shade, glass, coverage and conditions. Compare total solar energy rejection (TSER) for the same test basis. Infrared-rejection figures can use different wavelength ranges and are not interchangeable with TSER. No fixed cabin-temperature reduction, cool-down time, energy saving or EV-range gain is promised.
Dyed, carbon and ceramic are different product categories. LLumar identifies ATC as dyed window film, not carbon. ATC uses an integrated charcoal dye for color stability, and LLumar states that it blocks more than 99% of UV rays.
LLumar's ceramic range includes CTX, IRX, FormulaOne Pinnacle and FormulaOne Stratos. Compare the exact series and shade for heat rejection, visible light transmission and reflectance; the category name is not a performance specification.
Ask PLM to confirm the exact film available for your vehicle in the written quote. A carbon-tint comparison is not a representation that ATC is carbon or that every listed manufacturer series is currently stocked.
VLT and heat rejection measure different things
VLT describes visible light transmission. TSER describes total solar energy rejection. A darker appearance does not, by itself, tell you which film offers better solar performance.
Compare the exact film series and shade using the same manufacturer's test basis. Do not transfer a figure from one shade to another or compare unlike glass/test configurations.

Read infrared specifications carefully
An infrared-rejection figure describes performance within the wavelength range used for that test. Different reported IR metrics can use different wavelength ranges or account for absorbed and re-radiated energy differently, so the numbers are not automatically comparable.
Use TSER alongside VLT, reflectance and the specified IR metric. Avoid treating a high IR percentage as a promise that the same percentage of all solar heat is rejected or that the film stays cool.

LLumar product categories, accurately named

LLumar positions FormulaOne Stratos as its highest heat-rejecting option on its ceramic overview, with Pinnacle, IRX and CTX offering different performance choices. That does not make every shade directly interchangeable. Confirm current availability and the exact data sheet before selecting a product.

Color stability and warranty depend on the product
It is inaccurate to say every dyed film turns purple in three to five years. LLumar ATC is specifically described as a color-stable dyed film. Aging, adhesion and appearance depend on the actual product, installation, exposure and care.
LLumar describes its automotive tint warranty as a manufacturer's limited lifetime warranty, subject to written terms. FormulaOne products have separate transferable coverage with restrictions. Do not assume every film warranty transfers, covers accidental damage or guarantees free replacement in every case. Confirm the exact product warranty, eligibility, registration requirements and any separate PLM workmanship terms in the quote.

Why no fixed temperature reduction is promised
Film specifications are not a controlled vehicle-temperature test. Cabin and surface temperatures also depend on sun angle, ambient temperature, parking duration, vehicle glass, ventilation, interior materials and coverage.
No PLM test dataset is supplied here to support exact dashboard temperatures, cabin cool-down times or customer-result averages. This guide therefore makes no numerical cabin-temperature, HVAC-saving or EV-range guarantee.
A future demonstration should publish the vehicles, film and shade, exposure conditions, sensor placement and comparison method, rather than presenting illustrative figures as measured customer results.
Choose performance within the applicable tint rules
The following summary is based on Texas DPS window-tint guidance. Film shade alone is not a compliance test.
- Front side windows: at least 25% VLT and no more than 25% luminous reflectance, measured with film and original glass together, unless an applicable exemption applies.
- Rear side windows: exempt from these Texas tint restrictions; this is not a sedan-versus-SUV distinction.
- Rear window: unrestricted only with an outside mirror on each side giving a view at least 200 feet behind the vehicle. Without those mirrors, at least 25% VLT and no more than 25% reflectance apply.
- Windshield: the strip must be above the AS-1 line; if there is no line, it must end five inches below the top. Combined strip/glass VLT must be at least 25%, reflectance no more than 25%; no red, amber or blue. Clear, untinted UV film is separately allowed anywhere on the windshield.
For a medical exception to the front-side darkness requirement, DPS calls for a signed statement from a licensed physician or licensed optometrist identifying the driver or occupant and explaining the medical necessity. Keep the statement in the vehicle for law-enforcement review. DPS stopped issuing Window Tint Exemption Certificates on January 1, 2019. A customer-signed shop waiver is not a medical exception or permission to use otherwise noncompliant tint on public roads.
Verify the exact film, glass and installation before choosing a shade. A shop waiver or a nominal film percentage does not guarantee legality. Read the complete Texas tint guide.
What to ask for in your PLM quote
Request a written quote identifying the film manufacturer, series, shade, windows covered and installed price. Confirm existing-film removal, taxes, preparation, availability, completion estimate and warranty terms before authorizing work. Do not compare different film categories or coverage packages as if they were the same product.
Product classification and manufacturer specifications do not establish a shop's dealer authorization or installer certification. Ask the shop to confirm available products and provide applicable warranty documentation.

Product questions
Is LLumar ATC carbon or dyed film?
LLumar identifies ATC as dyed window film with integrated color-stable dye, not carbon. Read the manufacturer description.
Does a high IR-rejection percentage equal total heat rejection?
No. Infrared metrics and TSER are different measurements. Compare the exact film, shade, wavelength range and test basis using the manufacturer performance sheet.
How much cooler will my vehicle be?
Ceramic film can reduce solar heat entering through treated glass, but the result depends on the exact film, shade, glass, coverage and conditions. Compare total solar energy rejection (TSER) for the same test basis. Infrared-rejection figures can use different wavelength ranges and are not interchangeable with TSER. No fixed cabin-temperature reduction, cool-down time, energy saving or EV-range gain is promised.
Does every LLumar tint warranty transfer?
LLumar describes its automotive tint warranty as a manufacturer's limited lifetime warranty, subject to written terms. FormulaOne products have separate transferable coverage with restrictions. Do not assume every film warranty transfers, covers accidental damage or guarantees free replacement in every case. Confirm the exact product warranty, eligibility, registration requirements and any separate PLM workmanship terms in the quote. Read the manufacturer's warranty summary and obtain the exact written terms.
