The answer should come from the exact film and what you want it to do. Before spending more, make the two quotes comparable and ask which difference you would actually value.
The short answer: buy the benefit, not the category
Ceramic tint can offer a different level of heat rejection, but even within LLumar's ceramic range, products come in different shades and performance levels. (LLumar ceramic range) “Ceramic” is the start of the comparison, not the conclusion.
Our recommendation: put the upgrade on your shortlist when solar comfort is a priority, then compare exact products at similar shades. If appearance and privacy are your main goals, include a suitable lower-cost option rather than assuming the most expensive film is necessary.
First, find out what both quotes actually include
Write down the manufacturer, series and shade for each quote. Then make the window list identical: a price for side and rear glass should not be compared with a price that also includes separately assessed windshield work.
Use this worksheet before choosing:
- Product: exact manufacturer, series and shade, not “premium ceramic.”
- Glass: every included window, with roof and windshield work listed separately.
- Performance: the same measurement and testing basis for both products.
- Preparation: any old-film removal or other additional work.
- Total: installed price, applicable taxes and exclusions.
- Support: written product warranty, installation terms and aftercare contact.
PLM's published quote process identifies these product, coverage, removal, price and aftercare details before commitment. (PLM tint quote process) Use that process to get a meaningful comparison, not just two package names.
Which numbers tell me whether the upgrade matters?
Visible light transmission describes how much visible light passes through; total solar energy rejected describes a different aspect of film performance, and infrared-rejection figures may use different wavelength ranges. (PLM performance guidance) Ask for the numbers for the exact films and shades, with the same testing basis.
Do not let a large UV-protection number settle a heat-performance question. LLumar's ATC dyed film also blocks more than 99% of UV rays, so that claim alone does not explain the extra value of a ceramic upgrade. (LLumar ATC specifications)
For example, if one quote highlights UV protection and the other highlights infrared rejection, ask for a like-for-like comparison. You should not have to guess whether the percentages describe the same thing.
What if the cheaper option is called carbon?
Carbon, dyed and ceramic are different product categories: SunTek describes carbon-based films, while LLumar identifies ATC as dyed and its ceramic films as using nano-ceramic particles. (SunTek carbon films, LLumar ATC, LLumar ceramic films) A dark appearance does not tell you which construction you are buying.
That distinction matters when you compare shops, but it should not turn the decision into a contest between labels. The relevant question remains: what does this exact product deliver for the price?
PLM currently lists LLumar ATC dyed film and ceramic options including CTX, IRX, FormulaOne Pinnacle and FormulaOne Stratos; ATC is not a carbon film. (PLM available-film guidance) The SunTek example explains the category, not PLM inventory.
When would I keep the lower-priced option?
Keep it in the comparison if it meets your appearance goals, your budget and the performance you want. Consider the ceramic upgrade when its documented benefit addresses a concern you actually have, rather than a concern the package name creates.
Also ask whether the two quotes differ in installation scope or support. A product upgrade should not distract you from unclear removal charges, an incomplete window list or unanswered warranty questions.
What does PLM's starting price mean?
PLM advertises LLumar tint starting at $295, but that is not a guaranteed ceramic-package price or a quote for every vehicle. (PLM tint offer) Treat it as an entry point for a vehicle-specific comparison, not the price of every option discussed here.
Before approving work, ask PLM to explain the extra spend in one sentence: “This option costs more because it adds this benefit to the windows we have agreed to treat.” If the benefit does not matter to you, say so.
Compare two options for your car
Send your vehicle details, desired windows, existing film and main priority through PLM's tint quote page. Request a suitable baseline option and a ceramic alternative, then choose the one whose benefits justify its installed price to you.
Confirm the scope before booking.
