The useful comparison is not simply “PPF or no PPF.” It is the difference between the coverage you need and the extra coverage you would genuinely value.
The short answer: compare coverage before upgrading
If your main concern is road-facing paint, start by comparing full-front coverage with the specific impact areas you want included. If you also want covered doors, rear quarters and other painted panels, compare a full-body scope; PLM offers both approaches, with the actual panel list defined in the quote. (PLM coverage options)
Our recommendation: ask for those two scopes side by side. The difference in price should buy protection on named surfaces, not just a more impressive package name.
When would I choose full body?
Use these questions to decide whether the additional coverage matters to you:
- Your standard for the finish: would visible wear on a door or rear quarter bother you as much as a chip on the hood?
- Your ownership plan: are you protecting a car you intend to enjoy for years, or making a short-term decision?
- Your use: which panels worry you during commuting, travel, loading or routine washing?
- Your budget: would the additional spend feel worthwhile even without a resale return?
Do not buy film on a promise that it pays for itself. PPF does not guarantee a repair saving or resale return, and it does not prevent every chip, scratch, stain or impact. (PLM protection limits)
If full-body coverage stretches your budget beyond what feels sensible, ask for a narrower plan. Choosing less coverage deliberately is better than buying a package you do not understand.
Why can two PPF quotes be so different?
PLM's quoted price depends on the vehicle, selected film, covered panels, paint condition and existing-film removal; paint correction is not automatically included. (PLM quote factors) That makes the contents of the quote more useful than its headline alone.
Compare these five lines before deciding:
- Film: exact manufacturer, product and finish.
- Coverage: every included panel, plus exclusions and edge treatment.
- Preparation: what is included and what costs extra.
- Installed total: applicable taxes, removal and any approved additions.
- Aftercare: product warranty, separate workmanship terms and how future damage is assessed.
For example, put “painted roof included?” and “rockers included?” beside both quotes. If one leaves those surfaces out, you are not comparing the same job.
Will it look like film is on the car?
Some edges, seams and texture may remain visible, and clear, matte, satin and colored films can affect the appearance differently. (PLM finish guidance) Ask to see the material and discuss where boundaries will sit on your vehicle.
At a consultation, look closely rather than judging only a wide photograph. Ask the installer to show how the proposed coverage handles corners, panel edges and complex shapes, and what happens if you have a concern after pickup.
What happens if it gets damaged or needs to come off?
Film is not a promise of free repairs: impact damage, repair and replacement are assessed separately from product defects, and warranty terms vary by the selected product. (PLM warranty guidance) Before booking, ask how a damaged section would be evaluated and what replacement would involve.
Removal also deserves a conversation, particularly if the vehicle has been repainted. Paint condition, repair history, film age and the removal method affect the risk, so disclose previous work and request a professional assessment. (PLM removal guidance)
Why put PLM on your shortlist?
Start with work you can see: the Our Work collection includes a Porsche Cayenne Turbo full-PPF project. PLM's service process also calls for a written film-and-coverage scope before commitment and offers a discussion about Build Log photo updates. (PLM installation process)
Use that evidence to start a conversation, not to skip your checks. Bring your priorities and ask PLM to explain the difference between a focused plan and full-body coverage for your car.
